CRYSVITA is an antibody that helps block the activity of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) to restore the balance of phosphorus and vitamin D in the body
Under normal conditions, FGF23 that is produced in the bones helps maintain just the right amount of phosphorus in the body. When FGF23 works well, the extra phosphorus the body doesn’t need is eliminated in the urine, and a normal amount of phosphorus is retained in the blood.
People with TIO don’t have enough phosphorus because the activity of FGF23 in their bodies is abnormal due to their tumors. Without enough phosphorus, the bones become weak and do not heal properly, leading to the symptoms of TIO.
CRYSVITA helps keep a normal amount of phosphorus in the body by keeping FGF23 activity in check.
